Ryan Reich explores traditional pottery forms and processes from a contemporary perspective. Using many handmade and re-purposed tools just as his ancient ancestors did, Ryan creates forms on the potter’s wheel and alters the surface using a variety of techniques. The forms and surfaces often float between robotic, industrial and design oriented inspirations.
Ryan mainly fires in the Cone 10 reduction firing range and uses both stoneware and porcelain clays. Combined with commercial glazes and traditional cone 10 glaze recipes, Ryan is on an endless journey to achieve new surfaces. Always experimenting.
